Joyce (Schulhoff) Goodman, age 97, passed away at Westminster Health Center in West Lafayette on Saturday, November 27, 2021.
Joyce was born on May 31, 1924, to Arthur and Evelyn (Gale) Schulhoff and was their only child. Joyce was born in New Jersey but grew up and lived many years in Cleveland, Ohio.
Joyce met her husband, Jack E. Goodman in a community theatre group in Cleveland. They were married in 1947and throughout their marriage they were avid theatre goers. Jack preceded Joyce in death in 1981 after 34 years of marriage.
Their first daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) was born in 1949 followed by their second daughter Laura four years later.
Joyce graduated from Miami University of Ohio with a degree in education. She taught 3rd grade for over 20 years, retiring at 67. Joyce continued to substitute teach until she was 80 years old. She loved being in the classroom.
In retirement Joyce enjoyed travelling the world to include trips to France, England, Spain, Italy, Morocco, and Russia among others. She also volunteered in her community serving as a volunteer usher in community theaters and as a dedicated member of the Ladies Axillary at Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, VA.
Joyce lived in the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C. for over 50 years before briefly living in Florida. Joyce moved to West Lafayette in 2017 to be closer to her daughter, Beth.
Joyce is survived by daughters, Beth (partner, Mary Tilden), of West Lafayette and Laura Kuykendall (husband, Bill) of Worthington, Ohio, and 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Joyce is to be cremated.
