Joyce Nervig, age 90 of Humboldt, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2021 at the North Care Center. Joyce Lorraine Nervig, the daughter of Anton and Mabel (Haugen) Anderson, was born on June 3, 1931 in Hardy, Iowa. She grew up in the Hardy area, attending Trinity Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed. Joyce graduated from Renwick High School in 1948. While in high school, Joyce was very active in sports; especially basketball where she started as a freshman. After graduation, she continued her education at Teacher’s College at what is now known as the University of Northern Iowa. With her degree, Joyce taught school in a one room school house. On August 19, 1950, Joyce was united in marriage to Edward James Nervig at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hardy. She continued teaching while Edward was in the service. Upon his return home, the couple started their family and she spent her years raising her family she loved beyond measure. Joyce was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and a longtime member of T-4-U. She was very active in her church, especially enjoying teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible school and working with the ladies’ groups. She was very athletic and extremely competitive. Joyce found therapy in baking and would often have pies and bread baking before mid-morning. She and Edward loved to travel and take many family vacations; creating lifelong memories. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Richard “Rick” (Deanna) Nervig of Hardy, Nancy (Dr. Walter) Bender of Kansas City, MO and David (Janice) Nervig of Hastings, NE; grandchildren, Jenna Nervig, Matthew (Kemra) Nervig, Amy (Dr. Matthew) Carda, Joshua (Gina) Lindell, Erica (Ryan) Barbosa, Joy (Dr. Gabe) Johnson and James (Audrey) Nervig; great grandchildren, Zoey, Brody, Hayden, Mason, Micah, Levi, Kiran, Addison, Brynlee, Theodore, Lily and numerous other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Edward in 2015.
