Joyce G. Rogers, 92, of Southbury, died Monday, August 20, 2012 at The Watermark at East Hill. She was the widow of Melvin B. Rogers.
Mrs. Rogers was born June 11, 1920 in the Bronx, NY, daughter of the late Samuel L. and Gussie Mocheson Goldstein. A retired teacher, she was one of the first teachers to teach the Head Start Program at schools in Coney Island and Brooklyn, NY and was a master supervisor in Queens. A resident of Southbury for over 33 years, Mrs. Rogers was a member of Hadassah, a member of the Heritage Village Camera Club and the Brush and Pencil Club. She was also a docent at the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury and a member of the Brooklyn Museum of Art League. She was a master oil painter, award winning photographer, spoke three languages and was a world traveler. Mrs. Rogers presented slide and video shows of her trips to foreign countries to residents of Heritage Village, the Southbury Senior Center and Library.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Anna K. Monaco of Southbury and Joan Rogers of New York City, a sister, Doris Fisher of Del Ray, FL, 2 nieces and 3 nephews.
