Joy Le Anne Emery Johnson, age 85, of Joplin, MO passed peacefully to her certain reward on Sunday morning, November 29, 2020. She was born September 13, 1935 in Milo, MO to the late Pastor David and Eula Mae Emery. She was selflessly ever-devoted to her family, church family, and friends.
She is survived by her two dear sisters, Sue Foltz and Lois Phillips, and her four grateful sons, Elton III, David, Scott, and Jonathan, their wives (who she referred to as her ‘Daughters in Love’), and 9 grandchildren and 6 Great-Grandchildren. Her late Husband, Dr. R. Elton Johnson, Jr. pastored multiple Southern Baptist churches in Missouri, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Georgia.
Joy was the ultimate pastor’s wife, graciously coordinating and hosting countless fellowship events and was a constant encouragement to all. She raised four boys in Brazil while serving as a Missionary alongside her husband. Joy lived a gracious and magnificent life of service as the consummate Pastor’s / Missionary’s wife and Mother. She was a graduate of William Jewell College, Liberty, MO, where Dr. Johnson served as Dean of Religious Life. She was a committed school teacher as well.
