Our Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Loving Aunt, and Friend Josephine Cardenas passed away peacefully at her home surrounding by her loving family on Friday, July 22nd.
Josephine was born on April 24, 1927 in Corinne, Utah the youngest child of Pablo, and Inez Duran Baltazar. She grew up in Corinne with her three sisters, and two brothers. She met her sweetheart Sam Cardenas in Grammar school. Following Sam’s return form WWII, they were married at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Brigham City on Christmas Day in 1948.
They made their home in Brigham City where they raised their two sons Sam Jr, and Rick.
Josephine enjoyed being a housewife, and loving mother. She worked for a short time at Maddox Ranch House, and Brigham Apparel. She babysat many children in her home, and was known as their “Grandma Fina”. She found great joy in having her nieces, and nephews at her home, they all loved being at Aunt Fina’s she simply adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved entertaining family and friends, and always insisted on making you a “little something” to eat.
Josephine was a member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church, and was very proud of her Catholic heritage. When she was a young girl growing up in Corinne she would take great pride in helping her father prepare their home for Mass to be recited for the members of their small community.
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Sam G. Cardenas; her son, Sam Cardenas Jr. his wife Hortencia (Tencha) Cardenas; her son Rick Cardenas, and her brother Dolfo Baltazar. Also survived by her three grandchildren: Marlina and (Bud) Gilbert, Sam Ed Cardenas, and Monica and (Mario) Echeverria; eight great grandchildren: Isabella, Olivia, Alyssa, Sophia, Tessa, Dakarai, Isaiah, and Mateo. She was preceded in death by her sisters; Martina Santillano, Jessie Ordonez, Jaunita Serna; and her brother Fred Baltazar.
