Joe was born May 9, 1932 in Red River County, Texas to Walter and Clara Garrison.  Joe was a devout Baptist and served in numerous Baptist churches during his lifetime.  His early childhood years were spent on the family farm and ranch next to the Red River. He and his siblings loved playing, hunting, and fishing along the banks of the Red River.  When Joe was in middle school his family relocated to their family ranch near Detroit, Texas where he graduated from high school.

Joe was one of five children.  He had three brothers; James, Billy, and Pat Garrison and one sister; Mary Ruth King.  Soon after graduating from high school, Joe married the love of his life, Monte Jean Lamb.  They were married on July 11, 1951 in Dallas County, Texas, and had been married nearly 48 years at the time of her death.

Joe proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean conflict with much of his time served in South Korea.

Together Joe and Montie raised four boys.  Joe’s career at Community Public Service, which later became Texas-New Mexico Power Company, spanned nearly 40 years and led he and his family to several homes across Texas and to New Mexico.  He began as a lineman in east Texas and retired as the west Texas division manager in Pecos, TX, with many positions in between.  After he retired, he and Montie returned to Silver City.

Hunting and being in the great outdoors gave Joe a great sense of pleasure, a legacy which he passed down to all his children and grandchildren. One of hisfavorite activities was being present with his grandchildren during a hunt.  It meant more to him than hunting for himself.
