Joseph Vahan Mardigian, 75
Troy Joseph Vahan Mardigian, 75, of Highland Avenue, died peacefully Monday at his residence.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late Vahan and Rose Kalemkarian Mardigian and husband of the late Josephine Rice Mardigian and Anna Kazelian Mardigian. He had resided all his life in Troy and was a graduate of Troy High School and Hudson Valley Community College and attended Siena College.
Mr. Mardigian was a self employed building contractor for over 20 years and President of Mardigian Properties Inc.
He was a long time member of Holy Cross Armenian Apostolic Church in Troy. He was active and generous in time and talent toward his Armenian heritage, supporting the local church’s and adopting and supporting a young girl who lives in Armenia. He was also a Past Commander of the Simonian-Avakian Veteran’s Post in Watervliet, a member of the Armenian Youth Federation, the Armenian Students Association and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Mardigian Coleman (M. Burke) of Brunswick; a son, Carl Marzola of Florida, a sister, Mary Arakelian (Varkis) of Whitinsville, MA, a brother, Harry V. Mardigian (Elsie) of Brunswick; a special friend, Lucille Dunham of Cohoes; two grandchildren Michael Burke Coleman and Joseph ‘JB’ Coleman and several beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Fannie Testo.
