Joseph John Stefko, III, 63, of Cherry, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017, at his home. Mr. Stefko was born on December 17, 1953, in Spring Valley to Joseph John and Doris Catherine (Hartig) Stefko, Jr.
He graduated from IVCC with an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice. He was the owner of Associated Title Company in Princeton for 25 years which his father started. He was a Deputy for the Bureau County Sheriff’s Department and also worked for the Cherry Police Department for 16 years. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Cherry. Joe served as a village trustee board member in Cherry for 36 years and was the Berlin and Westfield Multi Township Assessor. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals, New England Patriots, and pro-wrestling fan.
He is survived by his two children, Jennifer (Brian) Bolek of Homewood, and Adam (Allison) Stefko of Oswego; one granddaughter, Addison Joy; two sisters, Margaret Martinkus and Patricia (Paul) Pescetto; and his two best friends, Ed Pelszynski and Christine Despinis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lynn Raef; two brothers-in-law, Ron Raef and Gerald Martinkus and one great-niece, Meganne Snyder.
