Leominster – Joseph S. Pope Sr., 83, of Leominster, died April 6, 2014 in Life Care Center of Leominster, after an illness. He was born March 7, 1931, in Luzerne, PA, son of the late John and Hazel (Reilly) Pope. Joseph served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, Presidential Unit Citation, the Korean Service Medal with 5 Battle Stars and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. He served in the 34th Field Artillery Battalion.
He worked as a machinist in the tool and die industry.
Joseph is survived by two sons; Joseph S. Pope Jr. of Leominster, Robert Pope of South Carolina, one daughter, Dawn Formoso of Leominster,his long time companion Laureen Artist, one brother, Michael Pope of Pennsylvania, three sisters, Hazel May Southwell, Ciel Geisinger and Isabel Hoskins, all of Pennsylvania, along with six grandchildren; Jason Pope, Misty Pope, Sarah Pope, Teighan Lyons, Dominick Formoso, and Stephen Bashaw and eleven great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy (Artist) Pope, a daughter, Karen (Pope) Bashaw, a brother, John “Jack” Pope and two grandchildren, Dawn Carol Rogers and Devin Bleisdale.
