CMSgt Joseph R. Odom, Jr. USAF Ret.

Joseph R. Odom, Jr., 68, passed away and joined our heavenly father on Friday, May 23, 2014. Born in Alva, Oklahoma to Joseph R. Odom and Lola Spell Odom on December 4, 1945, Joe grew up in Erwin, NC. He graduated from Erwin High School in 1963, and attended Campbell College. Joe joined the Air Force in 1965. During his 30 year Air Force career, Joe was stationed across the country and even Japan. He served as an instructor at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS. After Keesler, Joe was stationed at Tachikawa AFB in Japan, to support communication missions during the Vietnam era. Joe’s next duty station was Beal AFB, CA. From Beal, Joe went to Minot, ND where he worked on the Minuteman Missile program. Joe continued to work with missiles at Davis- Monthan AFB in Arizona, in the GLCM program. His final active duty station was Langley AFB, VA, where he continued his work with missiles.  After retiring from the Air Force, Joe continued to serve his country as a Civil Servant.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda C. Odom, of Crestview, FL, his son, Joseph R. Odom III and his wife, Kasey, of Richmond, VA, his daughter Meredith Odom Ness and her husband, Craig, of Crestview, FL, grandchildren David Ness and Cailey Ness of Crestview, FL, mother, Lola Odom, of Dunn, NC, brother, Johnny Odom and his wife Sylvia, of Dunn, NC, and sister-in-law, Tommie Kennepohl and her husband John, of Cedar Point, NC. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joseph R. Odom, and his sister, Rae Odom Lee.
