Joseph “Joe” Curtis Smoot, age 72, of Hunters Lane, Morehead, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at his home.

 

Born March 10, 1949, in Fleming County, he was a son of the late Jesse Goble Smoot and Pansy Ethel Pierce Smoot.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Billie Jean Smoot Smith and Lillian Smoot Finch.

 

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Diana Hampton Smoot, whom he married November 21, 1981; two sons, Joseph “Joe” Smoot, Jr. and wife April and Jason Michael Robertson and wife Beth, all of Hillsboro; and five grandchildren, Hunter Curtis Smoot, Peyton Leann Smoot, Austin Michael Robertson, Andrew Blake Smoot, and Harper Jade Robertson,

 

Also surviving are four brothers, Clark Smoot and wife Pat of Converse, Indiana, Jesse “Tone” Smoot of Hillsboro, Robert Smoot and wife Kathy of Jackson, and Rawleigh Smoot and wife Dixie of Hillsboro; several nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.

 

Joe served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and was co-owner of J & J Contractors. He was a hard worker and left his mark on the community with his outstanding stone work.

He enjoyed woodworking, making furniture and turning bowls.
