Joseph J. Sopcich, age 84, a longtime resident of Calumet City, IL and formerly of Knox, IN passed away Monday, January 23, 2017 in Lowell.
Joseph was born on March 20, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of Nicholas and Mary (Grbac) Sopcich. Joseph married Loretta (Kowalczyk) on March 7, 1953 in Calumet City. She preceded him in death on November 3, 2015. Joseph attended Chicago Vocational School. He was employed with Veteran’s Supply for many years and retired from the City of Calumet City. Joseph proudly served in the Korean War and is a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Joseph is survived by his children: Julie (Michael McCoy) Sopcich of Seattle, WA; Christine (Daniel) Georgevich of Peoria, AZ; Mary (Mark) Maranto of Knox, IN; Nicholas (Mari Ann) Sopcich of DeMotte, IN; 10 grandchildren: Michelle, Derek, Alan, Lindsay, Alissa, Benjamin, Michael, Emily, Matthew, and McKinley; 5 great grandchildren: Jonah, Lileana, Elia, Ronin, and James; many nieces and nephews.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; wife; grandson: Steven Sopcich; 1 brother and 3 sisters.
