Joseph “Joey” John Chambliss (aka Whitey), 89, of the Bayville section of Berkeley Twsp., NJ, died peacefully on Sunday, December 19, 2021.
Joseph was born in Orange, NJ and lived in Bloomfield before residing in Bayville in 1961. Joseph graduated from Bloomfield High School, Class of 1950. He was a Cpl. in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, proudly serving in Alaska. Joseph had a love for cars and worked as a Chevrolet mechanic for 45 years, employed at Pine Belt Chevrolet, Desiderio Oldsmobile, and Seacoast Chevrolet, then retiring in 1997. He was a member of Saint Barnabas RC Church, Bayville, NJ.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Mary Lucy McDermott Chambliss and Cortez “Charlie” Chambliss, his wife of 50 years, Constance “Connie” Chambliss in 2009, his brother Robert Chambliss in 2014, and his grandson Jason Aires in 2015.
Joseph is survived by two sons, Joseph Chambliss, Jr., of Saint Augustine, FL, David Chambliss of Annapolis, MD, one daughter, Lisa Aires and her husband Sidney Aires of Bayville, NJ, his grandsons; David Chambliss and his wife April of Temple, TX, and Mathew Chambliss and his wife Brittany of Farmington, NH, granddaughter Kristen Aires of Asbury Park, NJ, great grandson Jack Chambliss of Temple, TX, a great granddaughter due in February, 2022, his beloved puppy Zoe, his sister Joan Torella of FL, sister-in-law Roberta Chambliss of DE, and former daughter-in-law Julie Martin of DE. He also leaves behind many cousins, a nephew, nieces, and many dear friends he met at work and Berkeley Island Park.
Joseph loved his family, loved vacationing on many cruises, and loved going to car shows with his yellow corvette. He will be remembered most for his singing, storytelling, and his hard work which provided a wonderful life for his wife and children.
