Joseph F. Giordano of Scottsdale, Arizona passed away peacefully in the early hours of July 20, 2011 at the age of 91, surrounded by his loving wife of 65 years – Elida and family. Born March 19, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York. Joe was a gifted successful artist and furniture designer. A gentle man with a kind and generous heart, Joe’s passion in life was the happiness of his family which included Joe and Elida’s children – daughter Judith (Sleepy Hollow, NY), sons Rob and Jim, devoted daughter-in-law Cathy (Rob) and 3 grandchildren Michael (Kyoto, Japan), Danielle and Julie. A longtime resident of Long Island, NY, Joe and Elida moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1982, where Joe spent his retirement years being a loving devoted grandfather dedicated to and successfully spoiling his grandchildren and enjoying his favorite pastimes– drawing cartoons, classical music, ancient history, reading mystery novels, sharing stories about his youth, his world travels and WWII experience. A pillar of strength for his family and friends, Joe’s wonderful sense of humor and smile won him many friends and admirers. A WWII Veteran of the Army Air Force, long term volunteer at Paradise Valley Hospital and usher at Our Lady of Joy in Carefree, Arizona – Joe believed in giving back to the community and his country. Joe lead a good life, made the lives of others more enjoyable and in the end, while his mind and spirit fought to continue – his body could no longer keep up. He will be missed but never forgotten – for the joy he brought to family and friends can never be replaced.
