Mr. Joseph E. Finch was born in Tampa, Florida on February 19, 1940. He resided in Michigan from 1966 to 1982 before returning to Tampa where he resided until God called him home. Mr. Finch attended Hillsborough County Public Schools and was a graduate of Middleton High School, Class of 1959 and received an AA Degree from Michigan State University.
Mr. Finch was a retiree of 20 years with TECO Energy. He was also an honorary member of 16 years with Advocates for Safer Communities, Inc. and a member of Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice Tampa Bay Chapter for three years. Mr. Finch was extremely competitive in sports and an avid sports fan. He enjoyed talking about his unique moves while on the basketball team when he attended Middleton High and New Mexico State University. He enjoyed cooking, music and sharing his basketball stories.
He was preceded in death by his parents: mother, Lillie Mae Hall Finch and father, Fordham E. Finch; siblings: brothers, Herman Finch, and William “Poppa” Rogers; sisters, Virginia “Mittie” Render, Violet Ann Finch and Margaret Rose Jones; cousins, James Hall, Rose Canty, and Oretha Ziggler; grandson, Isaiah Edward “Iceman” Brooks; son, Andre K. Finch, and niece, Desiree Finch.
He leaves to cherish his fond memory: daughters, Darla Finch Saunders and (Elliott Saunders, Sr.) and Chanda Finch; sons, David E. Finch, Joseph Spann, Roland Finch and Jawara Finch; grandchildren, Cynthia Brooks, Symone Sweet, Jeremie Finch, Jamillah Cannon, Jasmine Finch, Chantanae Finch, Elliott G. Saunders, Jr. and Cameron Saunders; great grandchildren, Iysis Patterson, Ilysicia Marcellus, Jair Finch and Jahseh Saunders; nephews, Ezell Lester, Jr., and Desmond Jones; niece, Carla Jones; great-niece Shavonda Roberts; cousins, Richard Allen Hall, Jean Ayala, Elizabeth Belton, Patrese Canty, Renita Canty and Dave Ziggler Jr.; special friends, Ms. Johnnie Lee Rose and Lillie “Red” Clark and a host of other relatives and friends.
