Joseph Efriam Abrego, 70, died on April 9th, 2019 surrounded by family listening to the music he loved, at the VA Hospital on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. “Baby”Joe is survived in Alaska by his wife of 21 years, Camille Uzzell Abrego, and his stepson, Bryan Clifford Dunagan, whom they raised in Hope,Alaska. To honor his last request, they waltzed at his bedside to a favorite song.

Joe was born on October 25,1948 to Cecilia Macias and Efraim Abrego in Travis County,Texas in the City of Austin at Holy Cross Hospital. He spent time growing up in California and the Texas Gulf Coast, where he learned to love seafood, particularly shrimp. He came to Alaska in1986 to work the “slime line” in Ketchikan, and fell in love with the State. He especially loved the mountains, and could not stop marvelling at their beauty all the time he lived here. He loved all kinds of music. He became a professional window cleaner and enjoyed the outdoor lifestyle both at work and play. He became a joyful Christian. Joe served in the Navy during the Vietnam Nam War, and was both “Blue Water” and “Brown Water” Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1969. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather Ernesto Ramirez, his brother Thomas Ramirez, sister Monique M. Ramirez and youngest son, Aaron Abrego. His surviving paternal auntis Sarah Musara of Nashville Tennessee, and paternal uncle Ike Abrego. His surviving maternal UnclesareJohnny Macias, Fernando Macias, and Joe Macias of Texas.

He leaves behind his much loved sister, Maryjane Venghaus and her husband “Brother” Ken, his sister Deborah Cole and husband Marc, his sister Holly Peters, and only surviving brother Anthony Ramirez. He is also survived by his oldest son, Jason Abrego, nieces Monique and her husband Jeff, Carla, and nephews Kristopher and his wife Betty, Marcus, and Alexander, three grandchildren, and three grandnieces Ava, Claudia and Alexia. He has other surviving family members of many generations too numerous to mention individually.
