Joseph E. Makoski, 90, of Greentown, Pike County, died Wednesday, March 11 in Community Medical Center in Scranton. He was the husband of Mary Stine Makoski at home and the late Anne (Maco) Makoski, who died in 1975. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Adam and Antonina (Kroliczak) Makoski. He resided in Greentown since 1983 and prior to that in Fountain Hill. Joseph retired in 1978 as a Foreman in the Safety Shop at Bethlehem Steel Corp., where he had worked for 41 years. He was an Army Air Force Veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was a member of the Church of St. Anthony, Newfoundland. He was a member of the Tobyhanna-Newfoundland Lions Club, where he received the Melvin Jones Fellowship in 1998, Hellertown American Legion post 397, Knights of Columbus, Trinity Council 313, Bethlehem, Laurel Blossoms Senior Citizens Group, Greentown and the Fountain Hill Exchange Club. Survivors: His wife, Mary; daughters, Valerie Ann and Stephen Polaha of Media, JoAnne Makoski Emerson of Portsmouth, R.I., Mary Beth Makoski of Bethlehem and Susan and Ronald Herczeg of Coopersburg; sons, Joseph and Mary Barbara Makoski of Bryn Mawr and Edward and Dolores Stine of Hellertown; sister, Sophia Kutzera of Hellertown; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.
