Joseph E. Duval Jr. 76, died Friday January 11, 2013, in his home. He was born on March 12, 1936 in Fitchburg, MA. He was the son of Joseph E. and Aldea (DeLorme) Duval Sr. He was baptized, made his First Communion and Confirmation at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Fitchburg, MA. He retired from the United States Army on February 1, 1975, as a Sergeant First Class, with 20 years, 1 month and 8 days service. He took his Basic Training at Ft. Dix, NJ went to Cook and Baker School at Fort George G. Meade MD, in 1972 he took a Mess Steward Course at Ft. Lee, VA. His stateside assignments; He served at Fort Dix NJ, Fort Devens MA, Camp Drum NY, Ft. Belvoir VA, Camp AP Hill VA, and Fort Bragg NC. His overseas assignments ; Her served in Germany for 5 years, He Proudly served his country in Vietnam for 2 years and in Korea for 2 years. Medals that he was awarded Good Conduct Medal 1-7 award, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his retirement he attended Mount Wachusett Community College, and Graduated in 1979 with an Associates Degree in Business. He worked at Barkley and Dexter labs in Fitchburg, MA for 10 years. In 1976 he joined the Knights of Columbus. Since then was awarded Honorary Membership in the Joseph P. Keating Council 99, also an Honorary Membership in the 4th Degree in the Bishop Beaven Assembly both in Fitchburg, MA. In 1983 he made a Curcillo. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 24 in Leominster, MA. He moved to Leominster in September 1998, joined St. Cecilia’s Church and made Extraordinary Minister to help serve Holy Communion and also a server to help serve the Mass. He was a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Joseph is survived by a sister Theresa (Duval) Lagasse of Waterbury, CT, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Joseph E. Duval Sr. in April 1959, his mother Aldea (DeLorme) Duval in February 1989, his sister Gloria Girouard in July 1979, and his sister Lorraine Kennedy in September 2006.
