Joseph Charles “Jake” McDowell 88, passed away Thursday,
August 18, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Tucson, AZ.
He was born April 30, 1923 to Claude McDowell and Ella
Boyd McDowell in Hillsdale, IN. He was a member of the
United States Army during WWII, and a welder for Stran
Steel. He was a founding member of the Lyford Volunteer

He loved to fish especially at Kentucky Lake, and he loved
his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Barbara
McDowell on 8/13/1992, a brother Raymond “Bud” McDowell,
and sisters; Martha Woodard, Lorene Rinehart, and Lucille
Decker.
He is survived by his son; Charles E. & (Cynthia) McDowell of
Riley, IN. A daughter; Judith L. & (Jerry) Lanzone of Lyford, IN.
Wife; Miriam McDowell of Tucson, AZ., three step-daughters;
Marie & (Gary) Wakefield, Gail & (Bruce) Mowen both of Tucson,
AZ, and Sara Knowlton of Mena, AR. Two grandchildren; Kurt &
(Julie) Lanzone of Montezuma, and Kristen & (Greg) Tejera of
Camby, IN. Three great grandchildren; Kaleb, Kolton, and Keaton
Lanzone. A sister; Wilma Harlow of Tipton, IN. Eight step-
grandchildren; Justin Smith, Kelly Crouse Alvin , Greg &
(Kimberly) Wakefield, Brian Wakefield, Daniel & (Arlene) Mowen,
Timothy Mowen, Joseph & (Nina), and Amy Wakefield. Five step-
great grandchilidren; Madeline, Cody, Luke, Eli, and Wesley. Also
several nieces and nephews.
