Joseph C. Mangine, 84, of Holiday Heights, Berkeley Twp., NJ died Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he lived Old Bridge for 40 years before moving to Berkeley Twp. 16 years ago.

He graduated from Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Joseph was Manager of Medical Research at Schering Plough in Bloomfield, retiring after 25 years of service. Mr. Mangine served in the US Army during WWII. He was a parishioner of St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church, Berkeley Twp., where he served as a lector and Eucharist Minister.

Joseph was a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Thomas the Apostle Council 4815, Old Bridge, NJ, where he served as Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus St. Thomas Assembly 1619. He was very active in Knights of Columbus state committees, serving on the 3rd degree Initiation Team and the State Membership Committee.

Joseph also served as District Deputy. He was also a member and former officer of the Schering Plough Retirees and served as editor of the Holiday Heights Newspaper. Predeceased by his grandson Scott Puff in 1994 and his son in law Gary Puff in 2004.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years Dorothea (nee Donahue); a daughter Loretta Puff of Brick, NJ; a sister Theresa Galbo and her husband Vincent of Boynton Beach, FL; 3 grandchildren Gary Puff Jr., Jonathan Puff and Kristen Puff, all of Brick; 3 great grandchildren Matthew, Emily and Samantha; a sister in law Mildred Donahue of Manahawkin, NJ.
