MSGT Jose Demetrio Torres, USAF, (Ret), Age 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1971, died Saturday, August 20, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Maria; three daughters, Olga H. Boberg and husband, Larry Hewitt, Anita P. Cook and husband, Terry, and Martha C. Mowry and husband, Frank; grandchildren, Michael L. Burnham and wife, Crystal, Ashley P. Lingerfelt and husband, Jason, Matthew S. Burnham and wife, Hayley, Greg W. Cook and wife, Jordan, Jason R. Boberg and wife, Heather, Angela P. Cook, and Jennifer M. Boberg; great grandchildren, Jayden, Haylie, Phoenix, Kade, Bentley, Austin, Jolene, Isabelle, and Hudson; siblings, Jose Torres and Brigida Romo; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Jose was preceded in death by his parents, Demetrio and Antonia Ortega Torres; brother, Antonio Torres; and sister, Clorinda Torres.
Jose was born in Peralta, NM in 1931 and before graduating from Los Lunas High School, he entered the United States Army where he proudly served for seven years before transferring to the United States Air Force retiring in 1971 after serving for twenty-three years. Jose served as an intelligence analyst during the Korean Conflict and a computer specialist during the Vietnam Conflict. After returning home he went to work for Telex Computer Products and then Digital Equipment Corp. He was very active in his grandchildren’s lives, while they participated in all sports. Jose was a board member for many years at Eastdale Little League and also coached his grandchildren’s Little League teams. He and Maria never missed a game, sometimes traveling around the state to watch their grandsons play football and baseball games. Jose was a very upbeat, goal-oriented person. He was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
