Josaphat, known to everyone as Harold, was born to Yvana Saint-Surin and Eleodore Thimoleon in Cap-Haitien, Haiti. He was the 2nd child from his mother’s side. His oldest sister Bernadette passed as a young child and from that point, he had taken on the role as the oldest sibling. He grew up in the small town of Ti Ginin, in Cap-Haitien where everyone knew everyone. He attended private Catholic schools throughout his primary schooling. He attended Collège Notre-Dame in Cap-Haitien for a few years and then he attended Lycee Toussaint Louverture in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He continued his pursuits for education and received a degree in both Agronomy and Veterinary Sciences as well as Engineering from Faculté d’Agronomie et de Médecine Vétérinaire (Faculty of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine) in Damien, Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Between all his education, his love for soccer and board games did not diminish. He would spend summers back in his hometown playing soccer with his friends and take any opportunity he had to play either chess, dominos, or checkers. Harold was always an entertainer.

Harold’s education took him all around the world from South America, to Europe, to the Middle East, and throughout the Carribean. With this educational background and exposure to various cultures, his love for holistic medicine grew. He spent the remainder of his life developing and learning remedies for all kinds of illnesses. His healthy lifestyle was based on his education in agriculture.

Harold was never known as someone to sit around. He was always doing something and was always planning for the future. He knew a little about everything and tried everything at least once. Harold’s professional resume started off as being a simple agronomist, he was a Dean of Agricultural Education in Ecuador, he was head of the Ministry of Industrial Trade in Haiti, among many, many other things. Harold’s accountability and diligence got him far in professional careers and he excelled in all he did.

Harold has 5 children that he was very proud of. He marvelled in their accomplishments and took advantage of every opportunity he had to brag about them. Even when occupied with his career and educational pursuits, he always made time for his family. He attended sporting events, school functions and was actively involved in their education as well. Harold loved hearing about his children’s interests and always encouraged them to be the best they could in anything they were working towards.

Harold’s love for Engineering and science inspired his children to follow in his footsteps and pursue careers in both the engineering and science fields. Harold encouraged all members of his family to be successful in all their endeavors as well. He inspired many to receive degrees in fields such as Medicine, Real Estate, Construction, and others.

Harold is survived by his wife Kerline Barbot and their two children Thara Cooper, and Jonathan Saint-Surin. He is also survived by his 3 older children Antonio Saint-Surin, Fernand Saint-Surin, and Marmara Cadet. He leaves behind many siblings and loved ones. He will be missed dearly and his legacy will live on through the lives he has touched.
