Jordan Obertier- age 85, died on Sunday, April 25, 2021 in hospice care at Swedish Medical Center. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 4, 1936 to Isidore and Hilda Obertier.
After High School, Jordan enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. While in the Air Force, he was part of the ROTC and attended The University of Maryland, where he earned his BA in Business. He later earned his MBA at The University of Montana, where he served as a Captain and a Missile Launch Control Officer, as part of the Minute Man Missile Program in Great Falls, Montana (Malmstrom Air Force Base). He served our country for 12 years and retired as a Captain.
In 1964, Jordan and his wife Nancy met in Ocean City, Maryland, knew each other for four days, got engaged, and married on the seventh day. They were married for 57 years.
Jordan’s passion for music was apparent. He loved listening to operas/arias, classical, and country music. He loved Willie Nelson and John Denver! When you didn’t find him listening to music, he had a passion for playing it on his guitar. When there was a chance to go see an opera or a Broadway show, you can bet Jordan was at the Central City Opera House or the Buell Theatre in Denver.
Over the years, Jordan belonged to many different clubs and affiliations. He belonged to the Elks Club, Trout Unlimited, Kiwanis Club, was on the Metro District Board of Directors for Highlands Ranch and the Maryland Alumni Club in Colorado. Jordan was also a parishioner and choir member for twenty years at St. Luke’s United Methodist in Highlands Ranch.
Jordan and Nancy owned and operated their own successful tax and accounting practice for 49 years, which included their son Don. Jordan and Nancy were part of Melaleuca and joined daughter Heather with The Juice Plus Company. Jordan was the true definition of an entrepreneur as he was “self-made” and knew that with hard work, came rewards.
As far as hobbies, Jordan had several: an avid skier, fisherman, pheasant hunter, tennis player, photographer, loved running his trains, and for years enjoyed trap shooting with Nancy as they earned many trophies together. He loved watching his sports! Jordan was a huge Denver Broncos fan and season ticket holder, while also following the Colorado Rockies and Avalanche. If there was a University of Maryland sporting event, you can bet he was watching it too.
If you ask people what they loved about Jordan… one of the first things they would mention was his “dry sense of humor!” He loved sharing stories and telling funny jokes. Jordan made friends very easily, adults and kids alike! He had a love for his pet dogs and cats too.
Jordan is survived by his wife Nancy, son Don (partner Derek), and Daughter Heather (husband Chris); along with his grandchildren Madison, Colton, and Braydon… Oh! And in his words, “Granddog” Mojo.
Rest in peace… loyal husband, wonderful father, loving grandfather, and committed friend.
