Johnny Wade, 74, was born December 20, 1946 in Columbus, OH. He was the third of seven children born to Johnson and Alberta (Pierson) Wade.
Johnny graduated from Linden McKinley High School, Columbus, OH in 1965.
In 1972, he married Marsha Ann Hendricks.
Johnny proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years and earned many awards and commendations. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Enterprise aircraft carrier during the late 1960’s when one of the ships rockets exploded, causing a huge fire on board while on its way to Vietnam.
He was a true entrepreneur and innovator and operated several of his own businesses. In December 1988, he co-owned and was a trailblazer of the combined beauty and barber shop concept opening the salon called Apogee located downtown Columbus. He later opened Genesis Barber shop on Mt Vernon Avenue.
Johnny was truly a “minister”. He served the homeless and brotherhood in the streets for many years under River of Life Christian Church, and under his service that fellowship turned into a Brotherhood. He and the brothers believed in going into the highways and byways to reach those in need. He was a praying and faithful servant in the vineyard. He had a ministry of spreading the message and saving lost souls. Johnny was a very caring and giving person. He never met a stranger and was very outgoing. His smile, laugh and jovial personality will be remembered by many. His passion was for those most forgotten by others.
Johnny was an honorary member of Jordan Bible Church supporting and attending frequently.
Johnny was affectionately known as “PaPa” by his grandchildren and his great grandchildren.
Johnny fought a good fight, finished the race and kept the faith (II Timothy 4:7) and he entered eternal rest on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnson and Alberta Wade; sisters, Janet Hall and Jewell Shelborne, brother-in-law John Moore, and his best friend and neighbor of many years, Mr. Carl G. Taylor.
Left to celebrate his life, cherish his memory, and carry on his legacy are his wife, Marsha A. Wade; sons, Terry (Katrina) Wade, Mychal (Sarah) Wade, and Obany Wade; grandchildren, Bryan Wade, Brooke Wade, and Brianna Wade; great grandchildren, Jayden, Tyler, Treyson, Tahj, McKenna, Bryson and Maya; siblings, Francine Moore, Calvin (Patty) Wade, Lady Wanetta (Pastor Wayne T., Jr.) Lee and Lady Debra (Pastor Stanley V.) Wood: sister-in-law, Judy Wade; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and close family friends.
