Johnny Yap Tan of Nutley, New Jersey died at the age of 81 on March 18th, 2023, at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, a beloved father, husband and grandfather. He was born on March 30, 1941, to the late Tan En Liong and Dy Po Chu in Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines.
Johnny graduated at University of San Carlos with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. After immigrating to the United States, he worked as a chemical engineer for Cargill for nearly 30 years in the United States and Singapore before retiring in Shanghai, China and Leesburg, FL. Johnny was an avid traveler, sharing his love of travel with his family, where his family was able to travel everywhere including his beautiful tropical hometown in Cebu, Philippines, to Bali, Indonesia, Perth Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Beijing, and Shanghai to name a few. He was an incredible chef, and was known for his famous Thanksgiving Turkey, which he was able to share with families and friends from all over the world as they gathered for his favorite holiday.
He will be missed by his “adorable and cute” wife of over 50 years, Rosario Ong Tan, their children John Frederick Tan, Glenn Christopher Tan (Qing Wang), and Amy Tan Wei (Austin Wei); grandchildren Naomi Wei and Mikaela Wei and his loving sister Pacita Tan. He is preceded in death by his siblings Sergio Tan, Rosario Lim, Taciano Tan, and Eleuteria Cuesta.
