Johnnie Jones, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023 at the age of 68. Johnnie was born on October 23, 1954 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to John and Dorothy (Lambert) Jones. Anyone who knew Johnnie knew he loved his horses. When he wasn’t with his family, he was usually with his horses. He won many awards for his horses and in fact, a competition was scheduled to take place on Saturday and he is so loved and honored by his riding family that they canceled the competition. Speaking of competitions – horses weren’t the only thing Johnnie was competitive in. He was competitive in everything – card games, board games, anything that could be a competition was turned into a competition. Johnnie was a master builder. You could tell him anything you wanted and he could build it or fix it.
Johnnie is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Linda Jones; daughters, Belynda (Darrel) Lawler and Michelle (Randy) Sowter; grandchildren, Dakota Meyer, Austan Meyer, Kymberly Lawler, Matthew Lawler, Alisha Sowter, Kendra Sowter, Courtney Sowter, and Randall Sowter; great grandchildren, Little Johnnie Meyer, Liliana Meyer, and Evan Meyer; brothers, Jimmy Dale Jones, Doyle Jones and Glen Jones; organization families: Capitol Hill Riding Club Family, GNHA Family, OSRCA Family, J Curry Electric Family, and Professional Plumbing Family; along with many additional extended family members and friends.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy (Lambert) Jones; brother, Robert “Sonny” Jones; and sister, Allena “Sis” Keesee.
