JOHN WNEK February 7, 1943 – March 29, 2018 John Wnek, 75, went home to be with His Lord Thursday, March 29, 2018, from his home in Manassas, VA. A son of the late Joseph and Elva (Morris) Wnek, John was born in Wheelwright, KY. He moved to Manassas after high school graduation to find work. He was a highway engineering inspector first at the Virginia Department of Transportation and later for the City of Manassas. In between, he worked as a foreman for Bituminous Products of Washington, DC. John served his country in the U.S. Army, in artillery, during the Viet Nam conflict and often talked about his experiences there. He suffered service-related illnesses from his time in Viet Nam. Also known as quot;Johnnyquot; and quot;Petequot; to his family and many friends, John knew how to make people laugh. He loved family get-togethers and his Wheelwright class reunions. He hardly knew a stranger and would do whatever he could to help if someone needed him. Preceding him in death were his sisters Anna Lou Tinder, Julia Polen, and Magnolia Needles, as well as nephew Michael Tinder. Survivors include his wife of 52 years Madilee (Childress) Wnek, his brother Jimmy Wnek of Wheelwright, and nieces and nephews: Sandi Knight, Carol Polen, Curtis Lee Polen, Richard Needles, Teri Love, Stacey Mejia, and Jay Wnek, as well as his great nieces and nephews.
