Obituary of John Wesley Ruby

John Ruby, of Saginaw, passed away on July 26, 2018 at his home, 106 days before his 100th birthday. John Wesley Ruby was born on November 9, 1918, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Thomas and Rachel Corrine (Monger) Ruby. He graduated from Southeastern High School in Detroit in 1937 and Tri-State College (currently Trine University) in Angola, Indiana in 1940. He was drafted, and served in the Army during World War II, where he was serving in Japan when the atom bombs were detonated ending the war. He was employed with King Seeley Corporation at Ann Arbor. He was the Superintendent of a variety of Municipal Water Filtration Plants from 1946 until his retirement in 1982, including Ann Arbor, Marine City, Algonac, Saginaw, Michigan, and Ottumwa, Iowa. Following retirement, he and his wife moved to Arizona, returning to Michigan in 2002. He was married to Dorothy M. Ruby on December 25, 1944 in Pigeon, Michigan. Surviving are three sons, Douglas J. (Mary Beth Moore) Ruby, of Washington D.C.; Timothy J (Ruth) Ruby, of Saginaw; and Donald P. (Linda Spain) Ruby, of St. Charles, Iowa; and one daughter, Debra J. Ruby, of Saginaw; son-in-Law Richard Douglass, of Ann Arbor, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Heather (Tom) Ruby-Ewald, Elly (Marty) Jordan, Katherine Ruby, Alex Ruby, and triplets: Sydney, Kyle, and Phillip Nowaczyk; and three great-grandchildren, Patricia Grace and Dorothy Hope Jordan, and Zachariah Ewald. He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, Richard Ruby of Whitmore Lake, Michigan; William (Pam) Ruby of Phoenix AZ; Rachel Luchs of Georgia and Janet Merrill, of Boise, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 70 years, Dorothy; one daughter, Patricia Ruby-Douglass; and one brother, Robert Ruby.
