John Wesley Hardin

January 20, 1926 – August 13, 2022

John Wesley Hardin, Jr., of Sheridan, Arkansas was born January 20, 1926 in the Junet Community, near Sheridan, the son of the late John Wesley Hardin and Anzie Mozell Wilks Hardin. Mr. Hardin served in the United States Navy aboard the battleship U.S.S. Pennsylvania, and took part in 15 major battles during World War II. He is a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, DAV Chapter #56, and Benton VFW Post 2256. He was an honorary member of Teer Hunting Club in Grant County. He had a passion for fishing Lake Ouachita and hunting the Ouachita mountains. Mr. Hardin died Saturday, August 13, 2022 at his home, at the age of 96. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Josie Mae Flory Hardin, who he married December 15, 1945; his daughters, Kiska and husband Albert Atchley, Dianne and husband David Mooney, Lavonda and husband James Marshall, Twyla Treadway; son, John Driskell and wife Brenda Hardin; brother, Bennie Lee Hardin, Sister, Laura Belle Hardin Semelka; dear friend and companion, Sue Dobbins.

Survivors include his grandchildren, Melissa (Terry) Murphy, Nathan (Amanda) Atchley, Donna (Dennis) Fugitt, Renea (Eric) Wilken, David (Jill) Mooney, Dee Dee O’Steen, John David (Amanda) Treadway, Billy Treadway; 18 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
