JOHN W. PIFER

 

John W. Pifer, 94  of Mechanicsburg and formerly of Carlisle,  died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012 in the Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle.

 

Born   Jan. 7, 1918 in La Crescent, Mn he was a son of the late Luther Elmer and Naomi (Barrett) Pifer.   He was raised by his foster mother:  Mrs. Kathryn Hewitt of Cove. His first wife, Eleanor E. (Kelly) Pifer  who died Dec. 31, 1986.

 

Mr. Pifer was retired,, after 44 years of service from the former C. H. Masland, Carlisle, where he was a mechanical engineer.

 

John was a member of the Carlisle Fish and Game, Eagles Aerie #1299, Carlisle, the White Circle Club, the Carlisle Moose Lodge #761 and was a founding member of  the International Union of Operating Engineer, Local #835.

 

He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and also square dancing.

 

He was preceded in death by a brother:  James L. Pifer and three sisters:  Ruth  B. Wiseman, Pearl Ceyzyk and Mae C. Brison.

 

Surviving are his wife: V. Jane (Betz) Pifer to whom he was married for 24 years. three daughters: Barbara Dewalt and husband, Mike, of Carlisle; Sandy J. Pifer of Missouri; Cheryl Beam and husband  David, of North Carolina; a stepdaughter:  Cathie Stouffer and husband Dave of Mechanicsburg; a stepson:  Jacque Betz and wife Kathleen of Hershey; eleven grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; 19 step great grandchildren and 9 step great great grandchildren.
