John William Patterson, of Salem, formerly a Ravenna resident, died at 1:05 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at the Blossom Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born Aug. 29, 1931 in Ripley, West Virginia, the son of the late George R. and Lola M. (Cline) Patterson. Before his retirement in 1963, John had worked at Davey Tree Company in Kent, Ohio for 22 years. He was a member of the Wayland Community Church and a served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. His wife of 36 years, Betty Jane Patterson preceded him in death in 1991. Survivors include three sisters, Clara Balser of Parkersburg, West Virginia, Paula Cross of Mineral Wells, West Virginia and Ruth Patterson of Parkersburg; and two brothers, Garner R. Patterson of Hanoverton and Donald Patterson of St. Albans, West Virginia. A son, James William Patterson; a daughter, Patricia Ann Patterson; four sisters, Sara Ames, Manzetta “Dale” Campbell, Mary Benson and Jessie Campbell; and two brothers, Jerome and Ronald Patterson also preceded him in death.
