John W. Hancock, beloved husband, father, brother, and uncle died Thursday August 5, 2010 at 12:19 pm at the Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer, IN of a massive heart attack.

Surviving are his wife, Dori of Rensselaer, daughter, Jennifer (Bruce) Seeloff of Zionsville, IN, son, Jared (Karla) Hancock of Travelers Rest, SC, grandsons, Ethan, Hayden, and Spencer Seeloff, brother Donald (Kay) Hancock and sister, Norma (Randy) Rowland both of Remington.

He was born in Watseka, IL on December 3, 1945 and was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elsie (Cheek) Hancock, three nephews, Erik Hancock, Colt Rowland and Zack Rowland. John was a 1964 graduate of Remington High School.

He served 4 years in the US Air Force and was a 1972 graduate of Vincennes University. John enjoyed RVing with his wife in their fifth wheel, wintering in Florida and snowmobiling in Michigan with his cousins Al and Laura. He served as a deacon at the First Christian Church in Rensselaer.

John loved spending time with family, especially his grandsons and his dogs, Tucker and Teddy. He was a kind and giving person who loved doing things for others. He was a farmer, a pilot, a Remington fire chief, manager of a crop dusting business and an auto worker. John was also a member of the VFW of Rensselaer, the American Legion, Jasper County Historical Society and served on the Fountain Park Executive Board to which he gave many selfless hours.
