John W. Brooks, Sr., was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on August 18, 1926, to Harvey Brooks and Mamie Granger.

 John went home to be with the Lord on August 22, 2019, at the age of 93.

 John accepted Christ and baptized on April 2, 1950, at Mt.

John attended the Indianapolis Public Schools #13, #19 and also attended the historical Crispus Attucks High School. After high school he attended Jordan College of Music. He was drafted into the United States Navy and served for two years and three months.

John was united in Holy Matrimony with Willa (Finkton) Brooks on January 30, 1952.  From their union came Odessa, John, Jr., Karen, Warren and Clifford, Sr.

John was a life long resident of Indianapolis, who grew up on the southside. One of the original Flanner House home builders, he loved to work in his yard, along with watching the Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Cubs. In addition to being a Deacon, he performed endless duties, while at Mt.

John enjoyed his family and grandchildren, but also enjoyed his quiet time.

John was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Brooks and mother, Mamie Granger; wife, Willa (Finkton) Brooks; sisters, Lucretta Smith and Thelma Taylor and son, John W. Brooks, Jr.

 John leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Warren (Satanya), and Clifford, Sr.; two daughters, Odessa Brooks and Karen (Brooks) Terrell; son-in-law, Tommie Terrell, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Mary Brooks; grandchildren, David Saunders (Yvonne), Warren M., Tiffany Terrell, Anthony, Clifford, Jr., Tommie Terrell, Jr. (Laura), Monte Wilder, Gerren Wilder (Janika), Lalah Johnson (Craig), Devin and Isaiah; great-grandchildren, Aries, Easton, Domnik, Ariana, Chloe and Tyson, a host of aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, many cousins, other relatives and friends.
