John T. Barrett, Sr., age 60 of Rensselaer passed away January 6, 2012 at IU Health Arnett Hospital, Lafayette, Indiana. John was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 16, 1951. He was the son of George Barrett II and Bernice (Goodwin) Barrett Worley. John moved to Rensselaer with his family and was a 1971 graduate of Rensselaer Central High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he was a security specialist. On June 27, 1971, in Remington, Indiana John married Roxanne L. DeMoss who survives.
John was employed at the Jasper County Community Services in Rensselaer for the past 14 years where he was a master public transportation driver. He previously was the Newton County Animal Control officer for six years. John was the acting president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2548, a member of the Royal Order of Moose Lodge #2272, the Veteran’s of Foreign War Post #1279 and was the corn-hole tournament coordinator for the Francesville Fall Festival. John enjoyed helping people in many ways and through coordinating benefits. He enjoyed sports, the Chicago Bears, playing darts and corn hole.
John loved his grandchildren and teasing his family and friends. Surviving with his loving wife Roxanne are two children, Stacy (Danny Hughes, Fiance’e) and John Barrett (Ashley Hill Williams), Jr. both of Rensselaer, seven grandchildren, Jarrett Murphy, Brady Hughes, Kyra Barrett, Dalton Murphy, Payton Barrett, Tyler Williams and Maci Williams; five brothers and sisters, George Barrett III, San Diego, CA, Rick Barrett, Morocco, IN, Patti (Steve) Zamora, Brandon, FL, Steve Barrett, Rensselaer and Larry (Shannon) Barrett, Slidell, LA.
