John Secrest, 63, of 257 Susan Drive, Collinsville, VA died Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital, Rocky Mount, VA. He was born on October 6, 1946 in Martinsville, VA to the late William Roy Secrest, Sr. and Bernel Overby Secrest. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Faye Barbour and a brother, William Roy Secrest, Jr. Mr. Secrest retired from E. I. DuPont as a spinning machine operator and was on the DuPont Bowling League. Later he worked for Nilit in Ridgeway, VA. He was a member of Smith Memorial United Methodist Church and a former member of the Collinsville Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Secrest coached the Collinsville YMCA baseball and basketball teams and was an avid golfer. Also, he served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. Surviving are his wife, Gladys Chesnut Secrest of the home; sons, Sean Scott Secrest of Collinsville, VA and John Michael Secrest of Roanoke, VA; sister, Vera Lou Claspill of St. Louis, MO and brothers, Kenneth Charles Secrest and Stephen Dewitt Secrest both of Martinsville, VA and Joseph “Joe†Delano Secrest of Marion, WI.
