John S. Zakrowski, 70, of South Bend, passed away on Monday December 2, 2013, in Morning View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend. He was born on June 20, 1943, in South Bend, to the late Ben and Frances (Kush) Zakrowski. John was also predeceased by a brother James B. Zakrowski of Seattle, WA.
Survivors include his brother, Tom Zakrowski of South Bend; his sister Margaret (Jim) Lydic of Centennial, CO; two nieces, Allison (Steve) Gretz of Hawthorne, New Jersey and Jennifer (Mike) Whitaker of Boulder, CO; and two nephews, Jeffrey L. Zakrowski of Seoul, South Korea and John (Brianna) Lydic of Budapest, Hungary. John is also survived by his companion of many years, Marsha Cummins, of Bloomington, IN.
John graduated from New Carlisle High School and Indiana University Bloomington. John also served in the United States Air Force, stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. For 33 years John worked for AT&T both in Southern Indiana and in Conyers, GA. Following his retirement, John made his home in Nashville, IN, where he enjoyed hiking and all sorts of outdoor activities. He was always at home in the forests of Brown County, IN.
