John Roger Lee Dunbar, 86, of Moberly, died June 23, 2017 at his home.  He had been in failing health.  John was born August 14, 1930 in Wellsville, MO, to Paul E. and Berillia (Wells) Dunbar.

He served his country honorably in the U.S. Marines, H-3-1 Marine Division F.M.F., during the Korean Conflict.  John was wounded in battle and received the Purple Heart.  He was a 1957 graduate of the University of Missouri with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture.  He ran for the Missouri House of Representatives in 1963.

Prior to retirement he was a farmer and a truck driver for many different companies, and enjoyed driving the Amish to the different places they needed to go.  John was a member of the Sweet Springs Baptist Church.

John married Marjorie Bledsoe on August 30, 1954, and to this union were born four children,  Valerie Kampfer and husband Ron of  Topeka, KS, Mike Dunbar and wife Donna, Linda Kings and husband Robert,  Paul Dunbar and wife Sandy,  all of Moberly; three grandsons, Ryan Carr, Austin Kings, Gabriel Kings; six step-grandchildren, Chris Williams, Frank Vorhees, Bobby Vorhees, Brandon, Kayla, and Neil Wester; seven great-grandsons; a great-great-granddaughter; a great-great-grandson; brothers, Paul Dunbar and James Dunbar both of Wellsville, sisters, Hilda Bridges of St. Charles, MO, Melba Tribble of Denver, CO, Wilma Flowers and husband Sheldon of Cincinnati, OH; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, step-mother Willimina Dunbar,  a granddaughter Sara Dunbar, a brother Robert Dunbar, and a sister LaVerne McLean.
