John Robert Emmette, 98, of Middletown, husband of the late Shirley (Russell) Emmette, passed away at home on February 11, 2016. Born on June 8, 1917 in Middletown, he was the son of the late Harry and Edith (Almond) Emmette. John attended Middletown High School, Class of 1937, where he excelled in athletics. Sports were the love of his life particularly golf, basketball and track where he held several MHS track records. For many years he worked at assembling prototypes and retired from Standard-Knapp in Portland. John married Shirley on October 4, 1941 and spent sixty-three years raising a family, traveling and enjoying grandchildren until her passing in 2004. John is survived by his son, Jay Emmette and his wife, Heidi of Middletown; his daughter Lynn Boyer of Dallas, TX and nephew, Robert Emmette and his wife, Fiona of NY. He also leaves five grandchildren, Brenda Brown (Tim), Todd Emmette (Heather), Noelle Raymond (David), Brian Butterfield (Meredith) and David Butterfield; eight great grandchildren, Alicia Godbout, Janis and Megan Emmette, Morgan, Tucker and Tyson Raymond and Owen and Townsend Butterfield and two great great grandchildren, Adriana Moffet and Wyatt Emmette. Along with his wife and parents, John was predeceased by his brother, Almond Emmette and his sister, Flora Emmette Rattee.
