John R. Vigus of Lafayette passed away December 10, 2021, at home with his family by his side.

He was born October 1, 1948, in Winamac to the late John Joseph and Doris (Bryant) Vigus. Growing up,  John spent his childhood in the small town of Kewanna, having all kinds of fun and getting into mischief.

In 1968, John enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1971, he played at life and many areas of work. He eventually settled into further schooling at Northwood Institute for Culinary Arts. He retired after many years as a baker at The Indiana Veterans Home.

While attending the Northwood Institute, John met Tracy Wall, who became his wife on June 5, 1982.

John never met a stranger, and we couldn’t take him anywhere without him connecting with someone he knew.  He loved to tell stories and be social with all. He loved nature, birding, gardening, buying lottery tickets, and telling a good joke – of which he had many. He enjoyed sitting down at People’s Brewing or LBC with friends, sharing a good beer and conversation.

Along with his wife Tracy, he is survived by his 2 sons. Andy (Laura) Vigus and Jordan (Colleen) Vigus; 6 precious grand-children, Emma, Jaxon, Arlo, Evelyn, Amelia and Rosalind, all of the Lafayette area; sister Jackie (Steve) Brown of Ocala, FL; and friends as brothers, Jimmy Weller and Tim Cogdale.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Doris and sister Jane Wilson.
