John R. “GoGo” Govan, of Dearborn, formerly of Lincoln Park, passed away October 10, 2022. Loving father of John R. Govan (Natalie Schaefer). Former husband of Marianne Govan. Dear brother of Tim (Nancy) Govan, Sue Anne Spade, Pam (Alan) Palmiter, Bob Govan (Anna Keane) and Mari Kaye (Dan) Horvath. Proud uncle of many. He is preceded in death by his parents Harry and Helen Govan.

Coach GoGo as many knew him by, he coached men’s and women’s softball teams for many years including Clementes, The GoGos, and additionally he coached the men’s American Legion baseball team. He proudly sponsored Lincoln Park Rails Summer Baseball Program. He managed the softball fields of Quandt Park, Lincoln Park.

He attended every University of Michigan Football game, with his son, nephews, Mac (Kristen) Horvath, and Dan (Brittni) Horvath and niece Katie (Larz) Steifer. He treasured coaching his son’s baseball team growing up. He was a proud uncle when it came to attending all of Mac’s, Dan’s and Katie’s sporting events. John and his son loved exploring the magic of Disney World, going to the cottage up north and the occasional cruise. Graduating from Lincoln Park High School Class of 1970, Class President, his 1970 football team was inducted into the Lincoln Park Hall of Fame. He was a member at Dearborn Country Club, where he was an avid golfer, and would golf at every opportunity that he had. He loved hosting Wednesday night poker games. John truly cherished every moment spent with his family and friends.
