John Richard Dorn, 45, fell asleep in Christ on January 22, 2014, in Clarksville, Indiana.  He was born April 2, 1968, in Dunkirk, New York to Rev. Paul and Betty (Dierks) Dorn.  He was Baptized into Christ Jesus on Easter Day, April 14, 1968.  He grew up in Big Rapids, Michigan, attending St. Peter’s Lutheran School and Big Rapids High School.  He graduated from Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Indiana with a Bachelors Degree in Music in 1990.

     John was a founding member of The Brass Company brass quintet, which under the auspices of the National Endowment for the Arts presented music education programs in the Midwest.  He was a professor of music at Concordia University, Seward, Nebraska for six years.  During that time The Brass Company were Artists-in-Residence for  Concordia University’s summer music camp.  They were featured in the annual Fourth of July festivities in Seward, Nebraska, (America’s Official Fourth of July City-Small Town USA) and played in many places around the US and Canada.

     Along with his passion for playing the tuba, John loved working on cars and cooking/barbecuing (a connoisseur of hot and spicy foods).  He cared for many people in special ways and fostered friendships that extend around the world.

     He is survived by his wife, Rebecca; his parents, Paul and Betty Dorn; his brother, Michael Dorn, (wife, Veloyce); his sister, Rebekah Dorn; his nieces, Rachel and Elizabeth Dorn; his grandmother, Della Dierks; his baptismal godparents, Gretchen Grow and Steven and Rebecca Dierks; his mother-in-law, Beverly Reese; his brothers-in-law, Jeffrey Reese, (wife, Rebecca), and Nathan Reese, (wife, Misty);  and nieces and nephew, Kaelyn, Lydia, Autumn and Jonah Reese.
