BARKHAMSTED -PRANKA – John Pranka, Sr., 88, of Center Hill Road, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at his home. He was the loving husband of the late Ruth (Barden) Pranka. Born December 4, 1917 in Torrington, CT; the son of the late Anthony and Adele Pranka. He was employed by the State of CT Park and Forest for approx. 32 years. He enjoyed woodworking and tending to his garden. He loved meeting his friends at McDonald’s in the morning and just spending time with them. He also loved going to the Senior Center and sharing the vegetables from his garden. He is survived by a son, John Pranka, Jr. and his wife Anne of New Hartford; a daughter, Lucinda Nichols and her husband Ronald of TX; three brothers, Charles Pranka of FL, Chester Pranka of MA and Donald Pranka of MA; 5 grandchildren, Cheryl Pranka, April Deschaine, Jennifer Nichols, Steven Nichols and Keith Nichols; a great grandson, Benjamin Antonio Nichols and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves his loving and devoted companion and caregiver, Dorothy (Beard) DiPippo of Winsted. He is predeceased by a sister, Aldonna Oldman.
