John Peter Mercer of Bergenfield was 82 when he passed away June 4th. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland he lived in Cliffside Park, West New York, and Fairview before settling in Bergenfield 37years ago. He worked for Roadway Trucking Company before retiring in 1990. An enthusiastic hobbyist he was a builder of model railroads, airplanes and ships as well as a licensed professional photographer. Possessing a keen and inquisitive mind and a wonderful sense of humor, he was deeply loved by his family. John was the beloved husband of Alice (nee Lyttle) Mercer for 59 years, loving father of Stephen Mercer and his wife Geri and Anne Krajewski and late husband Carl, especially cherished grandfather of Kristen, Elizabeth, Sean and Jennifer.
