John O. Payne passed away September 15. 2008, with his chilshy;dren by his side at his home in Hobbs, New Mexico. John was born January 15, 1922, to proud parents John W. Payne and Irene Chashy;mbliss Payshy;ne in Tuxeshy;do, Texas. John grew up around Jayton, Texshy;as. He met and married the mother of his children, Pauline Hallum Payne.

John was a World War II Navy veteran and fought for our country at Iwo Jima. He watched as the American flag was raised in that historic moment.

He was a pumper and plant operator in the oilfields of West Texas most of his life and retired from ExxonMobile. He loved to fish and was a guide on Lake Armstaid on the border near Del Rio, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Frances Dunlap and brother Jimmy A. Payne of Quitman. He is surshy;lived by a son, John Paul Payne of Hobbs, New Mexico; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janis and John Ferrell of Indian Rocks Beach, Florida, and JoBeth and Jim Peebles of Grand Prairie, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Ian Payne of Hobbs. New Mexico, Paul Walker of Phoenix, Arizona, Mike Walker of Grand Prairie, Texas, Briget Nelson of Austin, Texas, and Boston Bo Nelson of Ruidoso, New Mexico; four great-grand children, Emma Hargrove of Hobbs, New Mexico, Austin Nelson of Ruidoso, New Mexico, and Tyler and Samantha Walker of Phoenix, Arizona. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Floyd Abernathy, and a brother, Tom A. Payne, of San Antonio, Texas.

His family dearly loves him and will miss him.
