WOODBURY- John N. Nelson, Jr., 90, of Woodbury, died Friday, February 18, 2011 at his home. He was the husband of the late Ellen (Jordan) Nelson.

Mr. Nelson was born April 2, 1920 in Waterbury, son of the late John and Emma (Johnson) Nelson, Sr. He resided in Woodbury for over 50 years. He graduated from Woodbury High School in 1938 and had attended UCONN and UMASS. Mr. Nelson was a WW II Army veteran who trained war dogs and later served as an investigator with the 304th Counter Intelligence Corps Detachment. He was a retired tool and dye maker having been employed by French Manufacturing and later started his own machine shop, Nelson Machine Co. He played hockey and baseball in Woodbury and Middlebury. Mr. Nelson enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing and camping in Vermont with his late wife and also enjoyed long drives in the country.

He is survived by two daughters, Elaine Nelson of Bristol and Maureen Nelson of Woodbury, seven grandchildren, Kristin Lazauskas, Gretchen Plourde, William Felzer, Sarah Sullivan, John Stockwell, Jordan Nelson and Lane great grandchildren, Maeghen Plourde, Justine Lazauskas, Carolyn Lazauskas, Jordan Plourde, Teallia Sullivan and Emily Sullivan.

He was predeceased by a son John N. Nelson, III.
