John N. Jurgens, 96, of Jacksonville, IL died Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at the Walker Nursing Home in Virginia, IL. He was born November 12, 1913, in rural Ashland, IL; the son of Carl D. and Kathryn Pauley Jurgens. He married Olive D. Billbe on September 5, 1948 in Mechanicsburg, IL and she preceded him in death on January 26, 2007.

He is survived by a son, Dr. Carl Jurgens (wife, Linda) of Belvidere; a daughter, Kate Meyer (husband, Bernie) of Arenzville; seven grandchildren, Tracy, Paul, and John Jurgens, all of Belvidere, Daniel Jurgens stationed with the US Marine Corps in San Diego, CA, and Neal, Chris, and Cory Meyer, all of rural Arenzville; a great-granddaughter, Kenzie Allison Meyer of rural Arenzville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Allison Meyer, and three brothers, Russell, Ernest, and Ruel Jurgens.

Mr. Jurgens served with the US Army during WW II and was a lifelong farmer in Cass County retiring in 1989. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Cass-Morgan Farm Bureau. A devoted and loving grandfather, he enjoyed spending time outdoors caring for animals, tending his crops, and appreciating the majestic beauty of God’s creation.
