John Michael Petrofsky, 67, of Lebanon, beloved husband of Judith (Atspins) Petrofsky, passed away Sunday (April 2, 2017) at home.  Born April 6, 1949 in Windham, he was the son of the late John J. and Pauline F. (Wolynchuk) Petrofsky.  John grew up on the family farm in Lebanon and was a graduate of Lyman Memorial High School.  He went on to study at UCONN, earning a degree in Forestry and Wildlife where he was involved in ROTC.  Following his graduation, John enlisted in the Army, serving for four years as a 1st Lieutenant in the 10th Airborne Special Forces “Green Beret” as well as a Ranger stationed in Alaska during the Vietnam War.  Mr. Petrofsky had worked as a computer programmer for The Hartford Insurance Co. for 25 years before his retirement.  An avid outdoorsman, he loved to scuba dive and enjoyed summers in Maine with his family canoeing, kayaking and white water rafting.  Along with Judy, John had a special place in his heart for animals, rescuing countless dogs and feral cats – all that became part of the family.
In addition to his loving wife of 40 years, he leaves their daughter, Bethany Petrofsky of Alexandria, VA; his brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Linda Petrofsky of Lebanon; his parents-in-law, Alphonse and Rita Atspins of Amston; his sister-in-law, Carol Marchigiano of Colchester; a niece, Kristi Corporan of North Carolina; three nephews, John W. Petrofsky of Lebanon, Aaron Tupper of Hebron and Jason Tupper of Colchester; and many extended family members and friends.
