John Mazer

August 21, 1921 – May 22, 2015

Mr. John Mazer, of Bay City, passed away early Friday morning, May 22, 2015 at McLaren Bay Region, age 93. He was born in Bay City on August 21, 1921 and resided here all his life. John was the son of the late Joseph and Stella Mazurkiewicz. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish and was a longtime member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. John served as a Staff Sergeant with the U.S. Army, Co. H, 349th Inf., 88th Division, during WWII. He retired from the Department of Natural Resources at the Bay City State Park. John spent his retirement years tending his garden so his family and friends would all have tomatoes for the season, or with friends enjoying coffee and conversation.
John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary (Bullis) Mazer; his two daughters, Mary K. Bennett and Patti Roedel and his son, Michael (Nancy) Mazer; and his two grandchildren, Matthew (Kate) Roedel and Nikki Mazer. Besides his parents, John was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mark Roedel; four brothers, Edward, Benjamin, Joseph and Paul; and four sisters, Geraldine Trudell, Delphine Gorney, Mary Cline and Jean Sosnowski.

It was John’s desire for cremation to take place.
