John J. Mason (formerly Joseph Anthony Florkowski), 85, of Brooktrails Drive, South Bend, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2005, in Healthwin Specialized Care Facility, South Bend.
John was born on May 3, 1920, in South Bend, to the late Anthony and Carrie (Obarski) Florkowski. On December 25, 1980, in Reno, Nevada, he married Mary D. Vasquez, who preceded him in death on February 3, 2002.
Along with his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Stefanowicz and by a granddaughter, Kelly Bieganski and a great-granddaughter, Nicolette Bieganski, in April 1996.
John is survived by his daughter, Carol (Louis) Jakab of South Bend; his son Jerome (Cecilia) Florkowski of South Bend; 11 grandchildren, Sheri Florkowski, Mary (Zachary) Gallagher, Gregory (Kelly) Florkowski, Kim (James) Thompson, Cindy (Dan) Kizer, Candy (Brian) Rassi, Ray (Patty) Bonek, Rick (Chrissy) Bonek, Roy Bonek, Eva Jakab and Louis Jakab; 29 great-grandchildren; and by 2 great-great grandchildren.
Mr. Mason worked at the Warner Brothers Studio, in Burbank California, as a sound engineer.
