John “Jack” Martin, 82, of Bloomington, passed away May 25, 2011 at Bell Trace Health and Living Center. He was born January 16, 1929, in Lyons, Illinois, to John P. and Dora Williams Martin. He was a graduate of Hutsonville High School in Hutsonville, Illinois with the class of 1947. Jack was a heavy equipment operator for 47 years. He was a member of Mid Central Operating Engineers, Local 841.
He enjoyed operating cranes and at the time of his retirement in 1994 he had worked for R.H. Marlin Construction Co. for several years. He was a member of Clear Creek Christian Church, a former elder and worked many years on the building and grounds committee. He loved his family, helping others, working with tools, traveling and living in Florida for many winters.
Jack is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Jane Lockhart Martin, daughters Cinda (Greg) Stultz of Indianapolis, Carol (Denny) Kirkman of Springville, son Alan (Neppie) Martin of Greenwood, grandchildren Lisa (Dan) Bookout, Jeff Stultz all of Indianapolis, Christopher Martin, Josh (Jessica) Kirkman all of Bloomington, step grandchildren, Melissa Kirkman of Tacoma, WA, Jody (William) Gill of McKinney, TX, great-grandchildren Zachary Bookout, Valerie Bookout both of Indianapolis, step great grandson Josiah Gill of McKinney, TX.
